ROLE SUMMARY

In this role, you’ll take charge of a talented group of instructors, ensuring top-notch lesson quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. As the backbone of our operations, you’ll be responsible for making sure every lesson meets our high standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructor Staffing and Schedule Management
  • Lead, coach, and mentor a team of coaches, providing guidance, support, and resources to ensure their success.
  • Assist in managing the recruitment, hiring, and training programs for swim instructors, ensuring alignment with the swim school's mission, values, and instructional standards.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive staffing schedule for the swim instructor team, taking into account class demand, instructor availability, and program requirements to optimize resource allocation and ensure consistent coverage.
  • Implement any availability changes with their coaches, communicating to other Aquatic Operations Managers as needed to ensure proper coverage for all lessons.
  • Solve any day-of scheduling issues and find coverage when there are any call-outs, ensuring full coverage for classes in addition to any client follow-up communication that needs to happen regarding instructor substitutions.
  • Cover in-water shifts as needed for their team and the company.

Instructor Performance Management
  • Conduct regular coach evaluations and provide constructive feedback to swim coaches, identifying strengths and areas for improvement to enhance coaching effectiveness and student outcomes.
  • Communicate any feedback or performance concerns regarding swim instructors on other teams to fellow Aquatic Operations Managers.
  • Work with the Training Manager to ensure that swim instructors are receiving training as needed to meet performance standards and continue to build their skill set as a swim instructor.
  • Confirm the adherence of day-to-day behaviors and expectations placed upon swim instructors (for example: diaper checks, pool work, etc.)
  • Ensure any process or procedural changes are implemented and understood by swim coaches.
  • Help train new instructors as needed.

Instructor Communications
  • Facilitate clear and effective communication between swim instructor team and other staff members, ensuring alignment with program goals, schedules, and instructional standards.
  • Ensures all updates and important information is relayed to and understood by swim coaches through daily huddles, chat communications, and LMS training.
  • Provide regular updates, feedback, and guidance to swim coaches regarding program changes, scheduling updates, and performance expectations to maintain consistency and cohesion within the coaching team.
  • Complete any shift reports that are needed in order to log and communicate important information, such as staff issues, incidents, closures, facility updates, etc.

Aquatic Facility Cleanliness
  • Complete opening, shift change, or closing duties (depending on hours worked) to ensure that the pool is set up for our instructors and students to have lessons and that the facilities are cleaned up and ready to go for the next day.
  • Monitor and maintain the cleanliness and organization of the aquatic facility, including the pool deck, equipment, and amenities, creating a safe and welcoming environment for swimmers and staff.
  • Assist with routine cleaning and maintenance tasks as needed, such as sanitizing equipment, checking chemicals, and replenishing supplies for swim instructors.

Swimmer and Parent Satisfaction
  • Provide recommendations and guidance to instructors and parents regarding appropriate placement and goals for further development.
  • Assist with level-up evaluations or celebrations as needed.
  • Build rapport and relationships with students’ families, being the first point of contact for any questions or concerns.
  • Serve as the first escalation point for any swim instructor or swim lesson related issues, looping in additional parties or escalating when needed.

Instructor Satisfaction
  • Serve as a liaison between instructor and management, conveying any concerns, suggestions, or feedback from instructors to the appropriate stakeholders and facilitating resolution of any issues or challenges that arise.
  • Work with People Experience and Head of Aquatic Operations to implement strategies to assess and address coach satisfaction, including conducting regular surveys, meetings, and check-ins to gather feedback, identify concerns, and recognize achievements.
  • Foster a positive and supportive work environment for coaches, promoting open communication, collaboration, and recognition of their contributions to the success of the swim school.


ROLE REQUIREMENTS
  • Proven leadership experience, preferably in an aquatics or sports-related environment
  • Strong understanding of swimming techniques, safety protocols, and instruction
  • Ability to help recruit, train, and manage a team of swim instructors
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for customer and team interactions
  • A people-first manager that can drive performance while maintaining an excellent work culture on their teams
  • Experience in maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and team development
  • CPR/First Aid and Lifeguard certifications preferred (or willingness to obtain)
  • Passion for teaching life-saving skills and working with children

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
  • $63,000 - $70,000 starting salary, depending on experience
  • PTO, sick time, and paid holidays

Compensation: $63,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
